Argued reason to why i need more character slots
for my arguement, i will use 2 other games as references, diablo 2 and ultima online. i have played both of these games extensively and understand just why the need for more character slots is eminent.
in diablo 2, you have the ability to create an account regardless of how many you created before it. on each account you can create 8 characters. this is not a problem and shouldn't be for anyone because you can create as many characters as you possibly can without any hassle.
in ultima online, you can create 5 characters, per shard. (or server, save Siege Perilous, which you can only have 1) this is really not a problem either, because with as many skills as the game has you also have much flexibility as to how you can play your character. you can basically change anything at any moment, free of hassle. (except skillgain, that's a bitch)
the problem in guild wars is that you are limited to 2 skill classes and have no flexibility. some might say that i have the ability to change my secondary profession in the crystal desert, but i will retort with: is it the same to play a e/mo as a mo/e?
with 30 different (PvE, 36 PvP) combinations i definitely need more character slots. right now, i have a Mo/W, W/Mo, E/Mo, and my pvp character (which i will never use as a PvE slot simply because i don't like being locked into the limitation that is PvE, yes, don't get into that with me please). i am itching to delete my w/mo to make a ranger but i have about 45 hours on her and i don't feel like losing all of that time. so what i must do is gain skill points on my monk and unlock skills by changing my secondary profession. i have always seen this 4 character deal as a design flaw waiting to be patched and i would like to see it in a patch soon, if not, then in chapter 2.

This is more germaine to the Sanitarium as it is more of an idea. I will move it there for further discussion.

I totally agree about 8 character slots would be very nice. Maybe they could do It in sorrows furnace? Or maybe an expansion.

I'd like ONE more character slot. And I'd like it to be PvP only. I keep one slot free so I have a PvP slot if I need to make a new build, or fill in a gap in a team.
I kind of find it annoying running into peeps who say they have most skills unlocked.
"Great! Can you make us a Ranger/War?"
"Sorry, I don't have a ranger primary, All my slots are PvE."
Grrrrr.

I would like 2 more slots (so that I can play with a primary of each class) and a specially reserved PvP slot that doesn't take from the PvE slots.
Since it seems the standard that everyone saves one slot which means that (except for those that don't follow the standard) we only have 3 slots...

Agreed with Slugfly. I would really like to have 1 character of each primary in PvE, because primaries play so much differently from each other due to their primary attribute. I'd also like one dedicated slot for a PvP character, so I can actually do something with my faction... right now its sitting useless because I have 4 PvE chars that I'd rather not delete.

I agree with everyone above......
once you have your main PvE character...and your main PvP character.....you cant mess around much with your remaining 2 slots...
you try one pvp build..and you wanna create an X/Y for PvE....
you have nothing.
can try another build, another combo out.
so 8 spots would be good.

from a rp perspective, I need 6 slots for PvE. Each character I make has some sort of fictional affiliation with the others and to delete them would feel like... more than killing them, erasing them. Not cool.

Anything over 7 slots seems like a waste of server space to me. I think one more slot would be enough.

something tells me that it wasn't a design flaw
i have a feeling they did it on purpose, as a sort of countermeasure to the whole no subscription fee thing
in any case, it doesn't bother me
i just bought a second copy of the game
boom, eight slots
oh btw don't quote me on the reasoning for few slots i don't know for sure that's just a guess ok

Adding more character space is a great idea, something I would like to see, but I think Arena.net has some good reasoning for it, in my opinion.
First of all, it's like the limit of items. You keep what you like to play and delete what you don't. It's pretty hard to constantly play 4 characters without getting a bit confused. Secondly, it forces you to test things out. Say we had 6 slots, we'd have one of each and a variable secondary profession. Would you ever make a new character? No, you'd probably just go to the Desert. This way, it makes people delete characters and cycle through the game, and therefore always having people at each location.
Don't get me wrong, I like this idea, but it isn't necessarily the best when you look at it in retrospect.

And that is part of the frustration, having to do the same missions over and over again, and the same quests on different characters. The beginning areas would be filled with beginner players as it should be.
I agree with the 6 character slots and 1 PvP slot. You really have no need for more than 1 PvP character considering how easy it is to re-make another one and not lose anything. The only arguement I could see for more than 1 PvP slot is you want to track your character's deaths, or other statistics. After filling all the slots, there is nothing left to do besides PvP, farm, or start a new character. However, deleting a character to start another is difficult considering the time you throw away, as well as any customized armor, weapons, or specific gear for them.

Now, if you could add extra keys to your current account, and get 4 more slots, 20 more spaces of storage space, and 1000 platinum more storage, I'd have bought several copies of the game by now. I'm sure other people would as well. Sure they'd have to store more things on their servers, but that extra bit would be there regardless of whether a current player bought a copy or a new player bought a copy.

I've had no trouble with my 4 slots. My characters came in this order R/mo, Me/e(then switched to me/mo at desert), Mo/e. Then I realized that I get no play time with my R/Mo that had 200+ hours on. So I deleted and made a new character, N/me. My 4th slot is always for pvp characters, but I usually just make another monk. So basically the only class I can't play in pvp is warrior, and I hate playing them anyway. You should start out with a decent variety of characters so you get stuff that you like unlocked first.
Also... Don't be afraid to delete your characters, after awhile they aren't helping you at all.

My wild guess is that the next chapter gives you at least one extra slot, especially if they introduce a new class. It'd definitely make more people buy the expansion.

I vote for 2 Character slots. 1 for unlocking skills/upgrades, 1 for playing PvP.

Argued reason to why you can't have more character slots.
GW = Free Game.
Character Slots = Loss of money.
So until Arena.Net starts charging 5 or 10 bucks per character slot, you're screwed, so quit asking for them.

All they need is the ability for people to tack multiple cd-keys and therefore, characters, onto one account. The reason I havent bought another cd for the extra four slots is that I cannot share faction, unlocked skills, or even very easily items. GW would still get the 4 characters for 50 dollars that they are now (and thier servers seem to be handling this size/money compairson quite well currently) and we get more characters and more freedom. This seems like the obvious, easy solution...
